There’s a kind of sleep named just for the cats who love a good snooze : the catnap. They also love cuddling, so that some people think it’s a good idea to help some cat shelters : join them for a good snooze.
Terry Lauerman is a 75 years old man living in Wisconsin, he pays a visit to his local cat shelter at Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary regularly for catnaps. The staff there said that he came in brandishing a brush one day and asked if he could groom the cats. The founder of the shelter Elizabeth Feldhausen said “He just walked in and started brushing. So eventually we told him he was an official volunteer and had him filled out the volunteer form.”
Terry started visiting the shelter daily, staying around 3 hour a time. Firstly he brushes the cats and after that he will join napping with them. The experience is a mutually beneficial one, and has had far reaching effects for the shelter. After they decided to dedicate a Facebook post for Terry’s lovely work, it quickly went viral. The resulting publicity has seen donations flooding in, providing funds for the shelter to continue their important work.
Elizabeth happily said in an interview “Our donations have increased. Normally, we’d make between $3,000-$4,000 per month. This week, we have reach $30,000. This is amazing because we do rely solely on donation.”
Now let’s take a look at Terry’s precious work.
The adorable pictures didn’t take long to win the Internet’s heart.
